Tane, Rurik and Connie have been lovers for a year now. They share everything that lovers do in bed. Connie is still considered Tane's blood slave and acts as she should when others are around but when alone with him and Rurik, she is able to be herself and they treat her an equal. Rurik is Tane's right hand man when it comes to the political side and he is really good at it but Rurik is changing, not in a good way and they have no idea why. He's losing his hair, becoming more aggressive, and his ears seem to be coming to a point, it's almost as if he's turning into a Nosferatu Vampire but that's impossible because Tane hasn't changed him. In fact it's against the law and would mean certain death for Tane. They've tried to hide it but Tane's clan have caught wind of the changes in Rurik and they are out for blood. Not just Rurik but Tane and Connie as well. Now they are on the run not just from the clan but to try and find a cure for Rurik.This book was amazing and my favorite in the series! I've loved Rurik since the very first book. He was always so gentle with Connie and the changes that he went through in this book broke my heart. I'm not gonna lie, I cried like a baby more than once! My heart broke that his blood lust for Connie was so severe that he was no longer gentle. I don't want to give anything away but I will say that the ending was not anything that I saw coming but I LOVED it!
This is book three in the series but can really be read as a stand-alone since it does go back and explain things however I really suggest that you read books 1 and 2 first because I gave every book in the series 5 stars with the exception of the 2.5 novella which I gave 4.5 only because Rurik wasn't in it. I told you that I loved him...

What a book....I laughed and cried throughout this book. when she was dealing with the possibility of losing a loved on....whether Vampire or Human, was gut wrenching. It was a beautiful story, one that, if you told me before reading this series that I would have bought into this relationship, I would have shaken my head and probably walked away, but Ms. Nicholas is such a great writer that I found myself in the middle of this heartfelt relationship and never questioned it. I thoroughly enjoyed this series, and I am looking forward to some of her other books. I am sad that it is over, as I wanted the story to go on and on!!
The Angler Series is hands down MY FAVORITE Vampire series I've ever read.
The heroine is a screwed-up smart-ass, and nothing ever goes as planned.

You will never predict what happens in any of these books. Connie, aka, Rabbit has the craziest life imaginable.
Smart ass remarks burst forth from the Rabbit on every page. She is sooooo funny. But their troubles are very serious.
To set the stage, Connie de Rabbit is not only in love with a vampire named Rurik but she also loves a Nosferatu named Tane.
This is a menage a trois that can truly bite.
Tane is the King of Vampires, but he’s still expected to follow the Nosferatu rules.
Things always go weird with Connie, and this book is no different. Rarik is losing his hair and getting really hungry…okay it’s worse than that. He’s turning into a Nosferatu, but not even Tane is allowed to make a Nosferatu without permission from all the other cranky Nosferatus.
So Rarik’s loss of hair could result in all of their deaths. Worse yet, Rurik is going mad with hunger for Connie’s blood and he almost kills her several times.
Sadly, I can’t tell you what I love most about this book because the surprise is the best part. So just let me say, you will laugh, cry, and be surprised in what may be the funniest, most poignant, and unexpectedly shocking Vampire story of all times.
I love this series- I have reread the first two already and I genuinely recommend them with CAPSLOCK ENTHUSIASM (No, really they were amazing go read them at once you will not be sorry), but I'm going to pretend the second half of this book didn't happen It feels like every character's basic personality got twisted into a pretzel then broken into tiny pieces just to avoid any unhappy endings. Which is, in my view, a far more unhappy ending than just letting bad things happen.
And don't get me started on the 'twist' that saved everyone from unhappiness. It was DUMB. If that entire thing was actually a THING in this universe, who the heck overlooked it for the last oh, say FOUR THOUSAND YEARS. Seriously? Not once in EONS OF TIME has that happened? No early vampires experimented or messed up? No one happened to go "Huh, I wonder if I do this thing..." And considering this is the darkest band of vampires in the universe, who happily do all sorts of messed-up things to other vampires on a whim... and have all this mental linking? No, you've just written yourself into a corner and yanked a cheap carnival trick of a plot device out of a hat in desperation. Which would be fine, I guess, but this series is REALLY GOOD and deserved a lot more respect than that. Why do this to such an amazing series? Why break a really cool canon for a cheap happy-ever-after...? WHY??!
Seriously, the first two books are AMAZING. You should read them. But if you like plots with logic and characterization that doesn't go straight out the window for the sake of Happy Ever After, skip this one. It's just not worth it. If you must, you could maybe read half of this one and make up your own end-game. I bet you can make it up in your head and be a lot happier with whatever you imagine than the actual ending. Like... it's that bad.
Otoh, if you want HEA at any cost, you're safe here. Go forth and enjoy. I'll be over here with the first books, pretending I don't know this one ever existed.
